The Darwin by Evolv is one of the most feature-filled — not to mention one of the most expensive — e-cigarette mods on the market. Inside the long, narrow body of the Darwin are two batteries and a power regulator that adjusts the output of the batteries automatically to reach the wattage you select, up to a maximum of 12.7 watts. The Darwin has an LCD display that shows the selected wattage and the resistance of the connected atomizer or cartomizer, and automatically adjusts the voltage as needed to reach the desired wattage. It has a rather unusual shape, like a long iPod Shuffle with a swiveling arm. When the arm is up, the Darwin is turned on. Turn the Darwin off and make it easier to carry in your pocket by swiveling the arm down.
As advanced as the Darwin is, it is not without its downsides. Because Evolv is only able to manufacture the Darwin in small batches, it sells out quickly. Months can go by without the Darwin being available to purchase. When it is available, the price of the Darwin vs. the Lavatube is more than double — a hefty $245. In addition, some people find the Darwin awkward and difficult to hold. These people generally prefer tube e-cigarette mods such as the Lavatube. Next, the Darwin achieves its power using two stacked batteries. Although no battery explosions have been reported with the Darwin e-cigarette to date, using stacked batteries always entails a certain amount of risk. Lastly, the batteries of the Darwin e-cigarette are non-replaceable; you have to send the entire unit to Evolv when you need the batteries replaced. While it is charging, the Darwin mod can operate from your computer’s USB port. If you are trying to decide between the Lavatube vs. the Darwin e-cig, we hope that this comparison makes your purchasing decision easier.
